Scarlet
Nearly the worst thing that we have seen happen to a cat is to get a parasite called scabies. The bug infests the skin and causes intense itching. Over the course of months the skin around the face first starts to break open. Cats lose hair, scabs form, they break open from itching and re-form. Gradually the condition covers more and more of the cats body. Lack of sleep and exposure will eventually kill them if not drive them crazy first.
It is easy to clear up with medical treatment but it is the feral cats which will have no hope. With no human friend they will never get the care they need to alleviate the suffering.
We have 5 times trapped feral cats who have showed scabies symptoms. Two of them died because the outbreak had progressed too far. The other three could be cured and Scarlet was one of those.

Before

After

She stayed in a cage at our house for nearly 3 weeks. After treatment we had to let her go because she couldn’t overcome her feral nature. Now I see Scarlet almost everyday on my TNR route. I put down food for her, she grabs it and runs away. And even though she doesn’t let me touch her, I am her person.
