Help JCN: Humane Traps to Promote TNR
At Japan Cat Network, one of our primary aims is to find ways to control the cat population so that the number of animals who are destroyed in Japan on a daily basis becomes drastically reduced. (See this article on the Angels With Fur website for details about just how serious this problem is.)
I think the most challenging fact is that in Japan nearly none of the resources are available to build a humane animal welfare system. And if you were starting from such a basic level what should you do first?
We think the first thing has to be spaying and neutering.
Right now we are trying to build a “trap, neuter, return” (TNR) army, to catch and neuter stray cats, with a fleet of the best safest most humane small animal traps available. Here is what such a trap looks like.
These traps cost $51 each, with 10% off if we buy two or more. We have a chance over the winter break to have up to four of them brought back for us and thus avoid the crazy shipping cost to Japan. (The shipping expense nearly doubles the cost of the traps.)
I won’t do this often but I want to ask for some help. For US$184 or 20,400 yen we can have four more of the perfect traps in about three weeks from now.
If you can assist us, your donation will have a huge impact on the reduction of the stray cat population of Japan in the near future and for years to come.
If anyone is in a position to assist us with this brief fundraising campaign, we can accept funds by Japan postal transfer, bank transfer, PAYPAL, or you could even use a credit card to buy the trap directly and we will provide a US address for them to be shipped to. If you could make your donation by December 31, 2007, that would give us time to order the traps and have them arrive in time to be brought back to Japan.
I am happy to answer any questions about any of this. Japan Cat Network travels from Kobe to Nagoya to help people with cats, teach TNR and lend traps, and to do cat trapping ourselves if people need more help. We really appreciate your support.
