Cool Cats

It’s been a busy summer caring and finding homes for more of the kittens from the park. The park kitten count is now 30 surviving kitten rescues, 12 re-homed, and 3 in the process of being re-homed this week. We’ve recently rescued several six month old cats from the park, which were too friendly to live there safely, and were probably recent abandonments. Adding to that, the shelter is also keeping kittens from two other TNR projects. The great news is that the kitten room has had a new air conditioner donated, the kittens are much happier, and we, the cleaners, are too! It’s much nicer for potential adopters visiting the shelter, as they can spend more time comfortably playing with the kittens. Our next project is building a kitten run, a small outside enclosure attached to the kitten room, so that the bigger kittens have more space to play in while we clean the cages. If anyone is able to help out with this, it shouldn’t take long, and we already have most of the materials needed. We are also hoping to put a concrete floor in the adult cat’s garden enclosure, and are looking for someone who has some experience laying concrete.

The second piece of great news is that we have been able to place the latest group of five kittens in a great foster home, while we look for their permanent homes. Not everyone is able to provide foster care for kittens, as they need a lot of time and energy devoted to socialising them as well as cleaning up after them. But when we can find a good placement, it frees up much needed shelter space and gives the kittens an ideal setting in which to prepare for their new homes.
