Japan Cat Network is dedicated to trap, neuter and return (TNR) as a means of helping Japan’s stray and abandoned cat population.
What are our Objectives?
1. “Helping People who are Helping Cats” is our motto.
We believe that people helping cats should not have to give up everything to do so. If you have a good local project, or an idea for one, we want to assist you.
2. Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR)
The gist is very simple. Spay and neuter the cats around where you live and prevent the births of dozens and dozens of kittens destined for a terrible life. The active birth control of outside cats won’t solve everything but it will make an enormous difference.
3. Education and Awareness
4. Networking
Who is Japan Cat Network?
We are Susan and David. We’ve been living in Japan, teaching English, and helping cats for about 15 years.

At first we were able to rehome all of the abandoned kittens that we kept finding, but after a while we began building our shelter. As we learned more about the problem, we decided that the most necessary aspect of helping stray and abandoned cats was stopping the reproduction through “trap, neuter, return” (TNR). This has worked wonders in our own community. We’ve wiped out feline aids, new births, and now have only healthy strays living in our town. Because they are well cared for in their various locations, they look just like pets. We go out on a bicycle every night to the feeding areas to feed and check on the cats, as well as patrol for any new cats. We’d like to help others who want to start TNR programs in their communities.
