Purpose
You’re ready to provide a cat (or cats) with a loving home, and make a commitment to permanent care. By choosing a cat from a rescue group, you not only help a cat in need, you help a group of people to continue helping more cats.
The Basics
If you are considering adopting a cat, we can invite you out, introduce you to some cats and ask you to participate in a short interview and questionnaire.
Once we’ve decided if adoption will work for you, we will bring the cat to your home. Having us along makes the transition to the new environment much easier for the cat. You’ll be asked to sign an adoption contract so that all of the conditions are clearly understood.
General Guidelines
1. The adoption contract is between Japan Cat Network and yourself. If you are unable to remain the primary caregiver, you must contact us regarding any new placement options.
2. You must agree to provide a good humane standard of care which includes a good diet and access to clean water; a suitable, clean, and safe environment for a cat of its age; affection and playtime; good medical care; and an environment free from neglect, mistreatment, or abuse by yourself or others. You must also agree not to have the cat declawed.
3. You must agree to arrange for neutering or spaying if this has not already been completed at the time of adoption, and you must provide proof of this to Japan Cat Network. In the case where neutering or spaying has been completed, we ask that you pay for the cost of the operation and first vaccination.
4. You must allow for follow up visits by a Japan Cat Network representative to affirm the cats continued wellbeing.
5. You should keep us updated on your current contact information.
6. We really appreciate your willingness to invite a cat to live permanently with you in your home. When these cats leave our shelter, please know that each one carries its own rescue story, some longer and more harrowing than others. We are highly invested in these cats now having a safe and happy life. We ask that you agree to take the handing over of this responsibility to you, as the new caregiver, very seriously.
