…for something we have no concept of! It seems like there is something scheduled for every minute of the day, much of it focusing on kitten care. It has become a complete maternity ward around here, with a kind of Stephen King twist. Growling, hissing feral moms, necessitating the use of long kitchen tongs to sporadically remove their babies for health checks. I told David that we should at least get tongs with softer ends, but he said he NEEDS the hard ones to DEFEND himself with! It’s all fun and games until somebody’s finger gets bitten and swells up to double it’s size. Poor David. Bitey mom was spayed and went back home last night. Scratchy mom has gone to the vet for her spay this afternoon. Growly mom is going to be with us for a while, and there hasn’t been a need to interfere with her babies, so no idea as to her preferred method of attack yet! Kittens are all well…hopefully the newly separated this morning will have no problem eating on their own over the next 24 hours. They’ve been practicing, and doing well having snacks. The vet continues to keep our 4 motherless kittens at the clinic, since one remains difficult to bottle feed. His wife can coax just about any animal to relax, and is an expert feeder. What would we do without them?! We also have a kind family providing foster care for one of the groups of rescued kittens, and we went out to check their progress yesterday…all tabbies, but cute as ever, and socializing well. The above picture is of two of them. They’re about 4-5 weeks old, and this is probably the group that we will work on rehoming next.

Our volunteer went out to a factory yesterday to help trap a cat that had given birth there…the kind workers had already found homes for the 5 kittens, but could not catch the feral mother. She has an appointment to be spayed today, and the workers will care for her in the future.

One Responseso far.

What a pair of little cuties! I’m sorry that the moms are injuring you, but its only because they don’t “really” understand that you are trying to help them….as you are aware. That’s the only way they can make their wishes known….”LET ME OUT!” :)

I’m glad that all of the kittens seem to be doing well though and that the factory there is “cat friendly” because of the workers. Besides, I’ve never heard of a factory that couldn’t use a good mouser! Preferably spay/neutered! :)

    Good work everyone!
