Finally met with the regional animal control assistant director. The meeting went very well, with him being very supportive of the idea of us working together to help people set up TNR projects, and rehome kittens from the project areas. He also believes that this is the only way to really lower the number of cats and kittens that are destroyed by their facility every year. It’s the most positive meeting we have ever had with any government official, so it may be a very good sign of things to come!
Good news about two of the kittens we were helping people to find homes for, as they each found homes on their own. Still working on the Tokyo plan. With classes ending this next week, we’ll have a lot more time to focus on getting things in Tokyo back up and working to help rehome kittens. Two homes waiting for four kittens, others willing to foster, so we are off to a good start.
The very sad news for the week is that we suddenly heard that Michael passed away. He had been having some health problems following his surgery, probably related to it having lowered his immunity, and for an FIV cat that can be deadly. He crashed suddenly, and went to the clinic where he had become very popular with the staff, because of his friendly nature. Soon after, they called Judy. She rushed there, and was able to say goodbye. We all loved this boy so much, and his passing was unexpected, though understandable. We’re just so happy that he was able to have one of the most loving homes possible, and access to the kind of constant premium health care that we wouldn’t have been able to provide. There are always difficult choices to make–the surgery which impaired his immune system, also removed the huge stone in his bladder, which was not only a constant source of pain, but life-threatening in its own right. No regrets there. We all have our own memories of this amazing boy, but mine is of the week I spent with him and Judy in his new home. He absolutely loved it–loved racing down the hallway, access to the personal food buffet, and a big soft bed to snuggle with his person on. He was one of those amazing cats that everyone loved upon meeting, and he will be sorely missed.
