Summer heat has started in full swing! We’ve started using the air-conditioner in the room we sleep in, because it’s just unbearable otherwise, but then it seems harder to adjust to the heat outside in the morning. Kitties are all sprawled out on the concrete in their enclosures, moving as little as possible. Adopters coming out tomorrow–am hoping everyone perks up a little by then! Went out and watched local fireworks last night with Misato and Saku-chan. They both wore beautiful Yukata (cotton kimono) for the occasion! The fireworks were some of the best I’ve seen. One was white and lacy with a small red heart, that appeared in the corner–really lovely. We took the day off today, spending a little extra time with the two kittens that Gina brought back from fostering yesterday. Valerie and Melody are headed to a new home in Tokyo, so Gina exchanged them for their two sisters, who were finally ready to leave the vet’s clinic. They are already up on Youtube! Val and Mel were a bit nervous about all of the kitties, so we brought them out of the shelter for some house time. They are both adorable, but Melody is the real snuggler. Thank goodness for Gina and all of her hard work socializing and promoting these two!

Have been working to help with a Nara TNR project, and heard that they unfortunately were unable to catch any of the cats on the first try. This is the way it goes on the first try sometimes, and the more serious problem is the disappointment that the people involved feel. Will work on the planning the next attempt, and try to be as encouraging as possible. There are also 3 kittens involved, that had been abandoned in the area, so we’re working on finding homes for them. See their cute pictures…

Working on the next Tokyo trip, hopefully in the next week or so, and also meeting with some volunteers interested in helping out in Osaka. No new possibilities as far as the property with the model house is concerned, though we are still hoping for some help or an idea on that front. We badly need an office/training/clinic space, as we just don’t have the space we need for these at the shelter. I can’t imagine finding a better space than the model house, but it may be easier to look for a rental property.
